Fish Tank
Fish tank was made 2009 and was directed by Andre Arnold. It is about a rebellious teenager aged 15 called Mia. who is nearly on the verge of being kicked out of school. When her mum brings home her knew boyfriend things start changing.
The genre of the film is social realism. Because it spot light a particular social class which in this case is the working lower class and displays their everyday dilemmas and events. another genre for the film is drama. It is a drama because it relies on the emotional and relational development of the realistic characters. Often dramatic themes are taken from real life issues which is evident in Fish Tank. This is what happens in real life on council estate. I believe that the film is called fish tank is because the characters them selves are in their own little world. The buildings the live in are like massive fish tanks. So in the characters within their flats are like fish in fish tank. the themes of the film are family, relationships, conflicts and goals.
The narrative of the film is completely linear. There are no flash backs or flash forwards. it is a multi stranded narrative line. With three main narrative lines in the film. there is the protagonist wanting to become a dancer. The protagonist having a sexual relationship with her mums new boy friend and the protagonist trying to free the horse.
